As usual, I am drawn to rooms with contrast incorporated in the design…

Villa for Sale

November 3, 2010

Anyone who has opened a shelter magazine or has picked up the book “Villa” knows about John Saladino and his Montecito home in California that is currently on the market. I was looking online at real estate (as usual) and came across his beautiful villa and had to share some of the photos of this inspiring property. All you need is $24.5 million to make this home your own…

Southern Accents

I love mirrored walls. I have seen them in a lot of the home tours around here for several years. If done well they can create a timeless feel and make a room feel larger.

Hope you are having a great week!

Why don’t I ever use orange in my home? It really is a pretty color.

Kaleidoscope of Homes Tour

October 14, 2010

I am so excited to be going to the Kaleidoscope of Homes Tour  sponsored by the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association in Southlake today! I go every year and always leave wanting more. I look forward to the innovative designs and inspiring ideas that I get to see in person and a portion of the ticket sales goes to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. The homes range from 7,000 to 9,500 square feet and are valued between 2 and 3 million dollars. I will let you know what neat new trends I see!

Too Funny!

October 14, 2010

I posted about dual master bedrooms this morning and to my surprise, I tuned into Oprah this afternoon and I hear her talking to Dr. Phil about couples sleeping separately. She mentioned that this trend is on the rise and that more and more people are having dual master bedrooms built in their custom homes.  Apparently, Dr. Phil thinks it is a very bad idea for couples not to share this intimate event together. You can go here to read more about it. I am still holding my ground that sometimes it is more important to get a good night sleep than to sleep with your mate. Anyway, it was funny to tune in today and hear Oprah talking about something that had been on my mind this morning. She has a way of doing that I guess. :-)

Dual Master Bedrooms

October 13, 2010

In an article in the NY Times, the National Association of Home Builders  expects 60 percent of custom homes will have dual master bedrooms by 2015. A few years ago the National Sleep Foundation revealed in a survey that nearly one in four American couples sleep in separate bedrooms or beds.

Although my husband and I have only been married for eleven years, I find myself longing for the day when we have a home with dual master bedrooms. I thought that only older couples faced the issue of disturbed sleep caused by their spouse but, apparently this is a common problem among many couples. I read somewhere that a married person loses about an average of an hour of sleep a night because of their spouse. I say we go back to the  Victorian Age when each spouse had their own suite with a connecting door. They had the option to sleep together or separately and in equally comfortable settings. It just isn’t fair for the person whose sleep is disrupted to always have to shuffle to the guest room in the middle of the night where the bed and the room just aren’t the same. I know some people frown on the idea of not sleeping with your spouse every night but, for me, I know I am always a happier wife when I am well rested.

You could go neutral or feminine with one of the suites…

And then you could go in a more masculine direction for the other suite…
